Since day one Michelle has been a fighter. Her life has consisted of hospitals and diagnoses, but it has never stopped her from being the smiling, joyful girl she is. Her wish to visit Sesame Street Park gave Michelle the opportunity set her worries aside and be a kid.
Michelle’s mother, Jill, is a Doctor of Physical Therapy at the hospital Michelle was treated at and she was quick to realize that Michelle was something special. Michelle was officially adopted into her family in December 2016, which changed her life for the better. In 2017, she was approved to receive a wish from Make-A-Wish Oklahoma, little did she know what her wish would bring her.
Michelle first became interested in Sesame Street’s TV shows and movies because they provided a distraction from the hospital beds and endless medications. “I wish we would have known her love for the show sooner; maybe blood draws would’ve been much easier.” Michelle’s mom said, “My husband and I turned on Sesame Street one day and she has been hooked ever since.” Knowing her love for all things Sesame Street, Michelle and her family knew Sesame Street Park in Pennsylvania would be her dream wish. She was overjoyed and couldn’t wait to meet her favorite Sesame Street characters.
Once at the park, Michelle and her family made memories that would last a lifetime. Her favorite part of the trip was personally meeting all the characters. She ate lunch with Elmo, played peek-a-boo with Ernie and went to the park with Bert, all in one trip! By the end of the week Michelle was walking around like she owned the place.
Since returning from her trip, Michelle is more interactive with others, Michelle’s mom told us. The trip gave her confidence and the strength she needed to be the happy, social kid she is today.
