Volunteer Roles

Make-A-Wish® Oklahoma depends on the help of volunteers in every aspect of our work. We seek to provide each volunteer with a supportive and enjoyable environment, and to give them the ability to make a difference in the lives of Oklahoma children. We are only able to share the power of a wish® with the help of dedicated volunteers. Across the state, they bring creativity and energy that help make wishes come true!

We match volunteers to positions based on ability, interests and availability. Consider your goals, skills and purpose when you volunteer for the opportunity that best suits you. Note: Many volunteer positions require a background check plus ongoing training.

Volunteers Chris and Jason

Wish Granters

Wish granters work directly with the children and their families to determine the child’s one true wish and then play an instrumental role in helping to plan, create, and fulfill the child’s wish. These trained volunteers make the wish an unforgettable experience through their attention to detail and imagination. Wish granters volunteer their time around their own schedule.

Requirements: Wish granters must be at least 18 years old, complete a volunteer application, background check, online orientation and a wish granter training session.

Wish Translators

Some wish children and their families request assistance in their native language to understand the process of a wish. We also need help in the office translating documents. Our most common need is for Spanish-speaking volunteers. This position is great for someone who does not want to serve as a full-time Wish Granter, but would like to help translate on wishes as needed.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, complete a volunteer application, a volunteer orientation and a background check.

Fundraising & Special Events

Whether it is helping to check-in guest, at our annual Walk For Wishes, taking donations via phone during our “Stories of Light” Radio-thon or serving to auction specialty items during our Wish Luncheon, we can always use a helping hand. If you are passionate about fundraising, you might even be able to organize a local event to benefit our wish kids. Volunteers have the flexibility to select which events are of interest to them.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old , complete an event volunteer application, and a volunteer orientation.  *May require a background check.

Wish Ambassadors

Help increase Make-A-Wish Oklahoma's visibility within the community by representing the organization at speaking engagements, check presentations and other events.

We provide the information while these volunteers provide the passion to tell our story. This volunteer position is best suited for individuals over the age of 18 with flexible schedules and a knack for public speaking, and who have Make-A-Wish experience.  Volunteers of all ages are welcome for this position.

Requirements: Complete a volunteer application, interview & online orientation.  *May require a background check.

Office Support

Periodically, we are in need of volunteers to assist with office duties, administrative tasks, and special projects. It can be a one-time task or we can set up a steady schedule.
