The most popular wish is for a trip to Walt Disney World® in Orlando, Florida; 51% of the wish children ask to "meet Mickey Mouse." Other popular wishes include play sets, home entertainment centers, computers, celebrity meetings and trips to Hawaii and other sites around the country.
Make-A-Wish® Oklahoma encourages the entire family to be part of the wish experience, knowing that parents and siblings need magic just as much as the wish child. The average cost of a wish is $7,500. This is based on the cost of a trip to the Walt Disney World® Resort for a family of four for seven days and six nights.
Make-A-Wish® Oklahoma finances its endeavors through corporate sponsors, foundations, service clubs, fundraisers and individual contributions. Money raised in Oklahoma remains local to grant the wishes of children throughout the state. Make-A-Wish® is not funded by United Way, nor does it receive any government funding. We continue to make the magic of wishes happen thanks to community-minded corporations, groups and individuals.
The Oklahoma chapter is part of the largest wish-granting organization in the world, with 62 chapters in the United States and its territories, along with affiliates in 39 countries on five continents. Make-A-Wish estimates a positive impact on more than 300,000 individuals each year.
The chapter has grown steadily with the help of caring people who volunteer their time and support.
