Luke, an Owasso native, is just your average 18-year-old teen – he likes video games, Chick-Fil-A, and watching all kinds of sports. What makes Luke “extra-ordinary,” however, is his once-in-a-lifetime wish come true to meet his favorite football star, Tom Brady. After qualifying to receive a wish from Make-A-Wish Oklahoma, Luke dreamed of meeting his favorite superhero, the all-time passing leader for the New England Patriots. Little did Luke know that the wish would be that, and so much more!
After arriving in Boston, the wish day started with Luke and his family having the opportunity to explore Gillette Stadium and meeting the franchise owners. Anticipation was built as the New England Patriot’s staff gave Luke a behind-the-scenes tour of the Patriot’s locker room and presented him with his very own personalized jersey. From there Luke entered the field in style, experiencing what very few players ever experience … getting to roll through the Patriot’s tunnel to the sound of cheering fans! With his name introduced on the large jumbotron, Luke was truly a “Pat” for the day!
Officially meeting Tom Brady was icing on the cake of this truly magical wish. Tom spent time with Luke and his family, posed for lots of photos, played a bit of scrimmage, and even handed off the football on a special play call to Luke for the 1st down. After a stop to see the four Super Bowl trophies, this wish was officially one for the record books.
Sherri, Luke’s mom, had this to say about the wish: “There are no words to describe the joy I saw in Luke that day. I realize the effort it took to pull this off and I could never express my gratitude to everyone involved with Make-A-Wish! Luke has spent his entire life not “getting” to do what everyone else can do – for just one day he was “getting” to do what no one else can do!”
