Millions of WWE® fans around the world tune in every year to see their favorite WWE Superstars and Divas during WrestleMania®. One lucky Oklahoma child, Michael, was able to experience the annual event firsthand. Make-A-Wish® Oklahoma, through the help of WWE, planned a weekend packed with activities for Michael, age 13, and his entire family of wrestling fans.
The family traveled to Santa Clara in Silicon Valley for the big event. However, in true Make-A-Wish fashion, in addition to attending the main Wrestlemania event, Michael had other surprise opportunities to meet WWE Superstars and Divas, including a private autograph session and tickets to the biggest fan event of the year, WrestleMania Axxess. It was a dream come true for the young wrestling fan!
Michael joined 24 other wish kids from around the country on this wish, which made WrestleMania one of the largest single wish-granting endeavors. Support from WWE also occurs year-round as the organization regularly helps grant wishes by donating tickets to WWE events nationwide and coordinating meet and greets with WWE talent.
Michelle McBeath, Wish Coordinator with Make-A-Wish Oklahoma, helped to arrange the logistics for the outing. McBeath explains the importance of the wish - “Our wish kids enjoy watching WWE because the confidence and bravery of the WWE Superstars and Divas is something that inspires them as they face their life-threatening medical condition. WWE consistently grants high quality wishes, and I am confident Michael returned from WrestleMania with a renewed sense of strength and resilience.”
WWE has been involved in wish granting since the early 1980s, beginning shortly after the founding of Make-A-Wish. The popularity of WWE has endured throughout the years with a total wish count numbering in the thousands. Since 2001, more than 45 Superstars and Divas have individually been requested, and subsequently, granted a wish.
