On March 22-24, 2013 the Oklahoma City Thunder made three deserving young men’s greatest wishes come true. Redzep, 18, from Georgia, Korey, 16, from Arizona, and Dominick, 16, from Nebraska - arguably some of the Thunder's biggest fans - started their wish weekend off by spending an afternoon bowling with several Thunder players.
The next day Redzep, Korey, and Dominick’s families were escorted to the arena three hours early to get an insider’s look at the team’s game-day preparations. Sitting in their reserved courtside seats, the young men had the opportunity to view each player’s individualized warm-ups with their shooting coaches and trainers. Several players were very gracious during their sessions, personally greeting the boys and their families to Oklahoma City and to the game.
During dinner in the private Founder’s Lounge, Redzep, Korey, and Dominick were surprised by a few special guests – “Rumble the Bison,” the OKC Thunder’s mascot, and several “Thunder Girls” greeted the boys and took photos with each family. After dinner the crew was off to their seats for an unforgettable Thunder game which included a “Kiss Cam” marriage proposal, one man’s half-court shot for $20,000, and a 103-83 victory over the Portland Trailblazers.
Following the game, each family took pictures at center court and had an opportunity few ever receive – waiting with the Thunder players’ friends and family, each young man had one last opportunity to take pictures and grab autographs as players exited the locker room.
We like to believe that the entire Thunder team gave a gift that keeps on giving. From small touches like the authentic jerseys each young man received, to the huge effort the entire organization made to highlight these special boys, this was truly an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They exceeded expectation in every way in granting Redzep, Korey, and Dominick’s wishes and truly showcased how to "share the power of a wish."
